The most famous beach is Wreck Beach in the UBC Area where clothing is optional. Kits Beach in Kitsilano and Sun Set Beach are also popular. White Rock Beach is a large sandy beach with many restaurants. English Bay Beach is close to everything with cafes, bars, and indoor pool. Lifeguards are on duty from Victoria Day until Labour Day.
On Vancouver beaches dogs are prohibited except at Spanish Bank West (200m west of the concession), Sunset Beach (bay behind Aquatic Centre) posted areas, from 6 am to 10 pm, and west of the Maritime Museum on Kits Point from 6 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 10 pm. Also no alcohol, no fires and no kite surfing are allowed.
